IQ mixers (In - Phase and Quadrature mixers) use two mixers to mix the input signal with in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) local oscillator signals.
IQ mixers have excellent image suppression capability, good retention of phase information, usually have good linearity, and can adapt to signals of various frequencies, making them more flexible in applications such as multi band communication systems.
