The waveguide directional coupler consists of a main waveguide and a negative waveguide. Coupling is carried out through the coupling holes on the common wall of the main waveguide and the auxiliary waveguide. According to the number and shape of coupling holes, waveguide directional couplers can be divided into various structural forms such as single hole directional couplers, porous directional couplers, cross hole directional couplers matched with double T and waveguide crack bridges.
A directional coupler is a four port network that includes an input terminal, an output terminal, a coupling terminal, and an isolation terminal. Directional couplers are passive and reversible networks. In theory, directional couplers are lossless circuits, and their ports should be matched. Directional couplers can be composed of coaxial, waveguide, microstrip, and stripline circuits.
Directional coupler is a commonly used RF passive device in RF circuit design, which couples the RF power transmitted in a line to another line. The basic characteristic of a directional coupler is that it only couples signals in a specified direction. The directionality of directional couplers is a crucial indicator, especially when used for signal synthesis and reflection measurement applications.
Directional couplers are used for signal sampling for measurement and monitoring, signal distribution and synthesis; In addition, as the core component of network analyzers, antenna analyzers, and pass through power meters, directional couplers play a role in sampling forward and reflected signals.
Qualwave supplies broadband and high power single directional broadwall couplers in a wide range from 0.84 to 220GHz. The couplers are widely used in many applications.
